I'd suggest the advertisements have to be seen when the site loads but shouldn't be too plain or control your website. Try and keep your content coming regularly as several directories will check on your website at regular times & the smarter ones shall visit on a schedule based primarily on your update schedule. As with patrons its harder to get a new visitor than to keep existing visitors.
